Volunteers needed:100 Portions of this unique forest have been degraded through past agricultural use, and as a result, became dominated by species such as buckthorn, boxelder and green ash. As part of a floodplain forest enhancement project, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation is working to increase the tree species diversity of the Crosby Farm Regional Park floodplain. In 2012, they selectively removed some undesirable trees and planted locally collected native hardwood seeds. Eastern cottonwood, silver maple and black willow are found throughout the site, and they will be supplementing these flood tolerant species with bur oak, hackberry and other species. The addition of these 2,500 seedlings will have a great impact on the health of this floodplain forest, and we need YOU to help us plant them all! Training and education, tools and gloves will be provided.
