Repair of Sewer Continues at Phalen and Johnson as Intersection is Partially Re-opened

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES), operator of the regional wastewater collection and treatment system, is continuing its repair of a regional sanitary sewer break that caused a large sinkhole on May 9 near the intersection of Phalen Blvd. and Johnson Pkwy.

INTERSECTION PARTIALLY RE-OPENED

The intersection at Phalen Boulevard and Johnson Parkway is now partially re-opened.One lane of traffic is open in each direction on Johnson Parkway. One lane of traffic is also open in each direction on Phalen Boulevard to and from Johnson Parkway to the west. Phalen Boulevard, immediately east of Johnson Parkway, remains closed until additional sewer repair work and street and utility restoration are completed.

PORTION OF PROSPERITY AVENUE WILL CLOSE FOR NEEDED SEWER WORK

In July, MCES will begin to address damage to the sewer pipe that extends south under Prosperity Ave. from Magnolia Ave. to the railroad track just south of Ames. Ave. To accomplish this work, MCES will construct a new manhole on Prosperity Ave. between Magnolia Ave. and Ames Ave., and extend temporary sewer pipes along Prosperity Ave.

A portion of the street will need to close for this work, but residents will be able to access their driveways from the north or from the south on Prosperity Ave.
