Outdoor Ice Rinks
Overview
Outdoor rinks are typically flooded during December after about five days of sustained temperatures below 25 degrees, when enough ground frost has formed to support the flooding. It takes about one week of steady flooding to make a surface suitable for skating.

Volunteers willing to help with flooding are needed, especially at night. Experience shows the best rinks here in Saint Paul are those that benefit from the assistance of community volunteers. You can inquire at any of the recreation centers where rinks are located or call Parks and Recreation at (651) 266-6400.

In addition to standard skating rinks there is the refrigerated WinterSkate Rink at the Landmark Plaza and three additional refrigerated rinks located at Phalen Recreation CenterNorth Dale Recreation Center, and Palace Recreation Center. These refrigerated rinks will provide up to an additional six weeks of quality ice skating during the season as well as a higher quality ice during the season.
