Pet Reproduction
Overview

There are millions of puppies and kittens born every year in the United States. Thousands of them are cruelly abandoned. Think about what you would do with any puppies or kittens your female pet might produce.

Spaying & Neutering

Unless you plan to carefully and selectively breed your pet, you should have it spayed or neutered. This is a relatively safe operation and eliminates reproduction.

Spaying or neutering in no way lessens your responsibility to properly control your pets.

Preventing Unwanted Reproduction

Following are additional ways to prevent unwanted reproduction. Ask your vet for more suggestions or clarification.
  • Females in heat should not be walked through the neighborhood.
  • Exercise should be limited to your property.
  • Feces should be removed immediately and urine spots diluted with water mixed with a small amount of ammonia.
  • When outside, never leave a dog alone or off a leash.
