The best way to teach your dog basic obedience is to attend an obedience school. These schools generally last 10-12 weeks, meet once a week, and teach you to train your dog.

Dogs and cats can be trained without professional help if you have the patience.
 

A pet will not stay trained unless you continue to work with it.

Initially, the pet needs to have only one family member training it. Later you should include other family members, one at a time, as you practice what you and the pet have learned.

Make sure all family members use the same commands with the dog.
