Fireworks
The Fire Prevention Division issues permits to licensed pyrotechnical personnel for the display of fireworks at Saint Paul events. Inspectors review specifications of the type of fireworks used, visit the site to identify potential problems, and issue the permit in accordance with all code requirements.

Open Burning
State Fire Code prohibits open burning with the following exceptions. Specific conditions must be met in order to conduct the following open burning in Saint Paul. Contact the Fire Prevention Division at (651) 228-6273 for information regarding these conditions.
  • Cooking in approved cooking device
  • Campfires used for cooking
  • Public picnic areas where facilities are already provided
  • Disposal by Department of Natural Resources Permit

Assembly
Fire Prevention Inspectors are assigned to inspect and monitor safety conditions at public assembly events such as:
  • Concerts
  • Exhibit shows
  • Sporting events

These inspections occur in public buildings that may present problems with:
  • Blocked or insufficient exiting
  • Non-compliance with no smoking regulations
  • Illegal use of fireworks or open flame
  • Conditions that would pose a threat to the safety of persons attending these events
