General Information
Circulators link high-quality programs in the neighborhood to young people who want to participate in those programs. Circulator buses provide free rides for young people to take advantage of learning opportunities throughout the neighborhood, at locations such as libraries, recreation centers, community centers or non-profits. Circulators encourage young people to get out of the house and get to know their neighborhood.

Why Circulators?
Through recent years and work, many parents and youth program providers have identified transportation as a significant barrier to young people participating in learning opportunities. Without the choice of and access to quality out-of-school time learning opportunities, youth will not be able to climb out of the gap that keeps them from achieving their full potential.

What makes a Circulator?
  • Free, youth-friendly transportation. Circulators provide free transportation for young people to take advantage of learning opportunities throughout their neighborhood as locations such as libraries, recreation centers, community centers, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Connected to learning. Circulators support a robust vision of learning that expands the times and places available for learning beyond the classroom. A Circulator can provide transportation for group activities, promote new opportunities, and encourage the community to broaden its concept of learning.
  • Collaborative in its design and implementation. Collaboration among neighborhood residents, organizations, and schools around a shared vision grows civic involvement, builds capacity, and increases resources. In order for Circulators to be successful, a broad group of stakeholders must be engaged in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the design.
