Through neighborhood
workshops and a Home Energy Squad visit, residents have saved an average
of $190 annually on energy costs
SAINT PAUL – This
Saturday morning, Mayor Chris Coleman is encouraging residents to attend
a home energy workshop at Central High School Auditorium, which is
cosponsored by the Neighborhood Energy Connection and The Green
Institute. The workshops provide residents with tips on how to save
energy at home, and as a result, save money.
“These workshops provide
residents with easy tips to save money. By insulating their homes and
replacing old lights, our residents will lower their monthly bills and
decrease energy usage in Saint Paul,” Mayor Chris Coleman said. “This is
one more way we are improving building efficiency, reducing energy
costs and protecting our environment while solidifying Saint Paul as a
national leader in environmental sustainability.”
The workshop is free, and
people who attend will qualify for $400 in insulation and heating
rebates. They will also have an opportunity to sign up for a visit from
the Home Energy Squad at a reduced rate of $30.
Over 2,550 people throughout
Saint Paul have been visited by the Home Energy Squads. This program,
offered through a joint effort of Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy,
has resulted in nearly $500,000 combined savings for Saint Paul
residents. The Home Energy Squads perform simple energy saving measures
like installing weather stripping, water heater blankets, programmable
thermostats, compact fluorescent light bulbs and water saving
showerheads and aerators. These materials are installed at no additional
cost.
These efforts will save
residents an average of $190 annually per house.
People can also request a
complete home energy audit by Xcel Energy, including a “blower door
test”, an infrared scan and a home report which provide recommendations
on other energy saving measures.
