The Saint Paul Police Professional Development Institute (PDI) is sponsoring a 5-day EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATIONS INSTRUCTOR COURSE.
There will be Night Driving Involved.
This course is designed to certify the student to instruct emergency vehicle operations (EVOC). Participants will develop classroom presentation skills by researching and delivering a presentation.
The student will also learn:
· Basic vehicle dynamics
· Legalities of emergency and non-emergency driving
· Guidelines for conducting a pursuit and an emergency run
· How to design a driving course to fit their department training needs and demonstrate the participant’s driving ability.
On day 1 of this training, participants need to bring paper and pen ONLY. Further directions will follow during the 1st day of training. Students will also need to bring a squad car from their department (two officers from the same department can double up in the same vehicle). On driving days: no open-toed or sandal type shoes should be worn.
Terry Erdman is an officer and 22 year veteran of the St. Paul Police Department who is currently assigned to the Training Unit. He has been a training officer for over 12 years. In that capacity he has made presentations to police officers of varying rank and experience, civilians, as well as speaking to small and large groups, both within the department and at the request of other agencies. Terry is the lead instructor for SPPD’S Taser and Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) programs. Terry supervised, lead, and scheduled SPPD’S 2011-1 Academy of 25 participants and is currently supervising the Field Training Officer portion of the Recruit’s continued education. Terry’s knowledge, efforts and consistent work product are described as “stellar” by his peers and supervisors.
