Overview
K-9 and Police Officer
The mission of the Saint Paul Police Department Canine Unit is to provide highly trained canine officer teams who serve both the officers of the Saint Paul Police Department and the citizens of Saint Paul.

  • Are capable of:
    • Performing evidence recovery
    • Building and area searching
    • Tracking
    • Narcotic searches
    • Explosive searches
  • Are comprised of a:
    • Sergeant
    • 21 officer / canine teams
  • Were responsible for hundreds of arrests in Saint Paul last year

Police Dogs

Dogs used for police service are purchased from specific kennels.  The Saint Paul Police Department no longer accepts donated dogs.  We use male German Shepherds as patrol dogs and male or female retriever-type breeds for narcotic detection.
