Computer: Video Game Creation –
Nintendo Characters
Create your own customized video game using Nintendo characters. Program your characters move and interact with
one another. Participants will learn to change backgrounds,
add audio effects, create a pong game and other games.
Working in pairs, participants will create a dynamic video
animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming
language created just for students by the MIT Media Lab.
Participants will be able to use different Nintendo characters
such as: Pokemon, Super Mario Brothers, Lego Star Wars,
Sonic the Hedgehog to create their video game animations.
Games will be available online or participants can bring in
a USB drive on the last day.

Computer: Xbox 3D Game Design Lab
Learn to create 3D games and challenge your friends on an
Xbox 360® or a Windows PC. Kodu, Microsoft's award-winning game design platform, is a new visual programming language that runs both on the Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
We will be creating games for the PC version using Xbox controllers. Participants working in pairs will learn the art of
rapid game design and develop an understand of underlying game
mechanics. Participants can choose from 20 different game
characters including flying saucers, submarines and a Pac
Man like Kodu main character then use an interactive terrain
editor, a bridge and path builder and other tools to create their
own 3D game world. Kodu is available for Xbox for about 5$
or a free download for windows. Games created are platform
specific, but programming environment is the same in both. Games will be uploaded online: www.computerexplorersmn.com/StudentWork.
