Wheelock Bridge – Project Update for Winter-Spring 2013

The existing Wheelock Parkway Bridge MnDOT #90396 was built in 1954.

It is located between Rice Street and Jackson Street in District 6 within the City of St. Paul.

This bridge crosses over the Canadian Pacific Railway, Trout Brook Storm Sewer Interceptor, and the Trout Brook Regional Trail.

After many decades of use, the structure has reached the end of its service life and is in need of replacement.

Public Works Bridge Division is currently finalizing the design of a new 3-span concrete beam bridge,
and anticipates commencing construction on-site as early as July 2013.
The new bridge is expected to open to traffic by late spring 2014.

During construction, Wheelock Parkway & Trout Brook Regional Trail will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge.

Detours will direct traffic to nearby Larpenteur Avenue.

The new bridge will feature improved sidewalk widths, City-standard ornamental bridge railings and lighting,
and better on-road facilities for bicycles and vehicles.
