The City Council first launched business awards recognition in 2017. The Saint Paul Business Awards acknowledge businesses that invest in their companies and community. You are invited to nominate a business and/or your own business for this recognition.  Eligibility requirements and award category descriptions can be viewed in the footnote at the bottom of this page.  In the Submitter Type field below, select the applicable identifier before filling out the form.  For example, if you are an individual nominating a business for award consideration, you only need to fill out the "Nominee Information" section.

An announcement of the chosen honorees will be made in March 2018 with a formal presentation at a Saint Paul City Council meeting followed by a reception in April. The public is invited to attend the meeting and reception.

COMPLETED NOMINATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 5 P.M. ON FEBRUARY 24, 2018.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for an award, a Saint Paul business must

  • be committed to equity, diversity and empowerment,
  • provide outstanding customer service,
  • demonstrate commitment to the community through volunteer work and contributions ,
  • be in good standing with the City of Saint Paul (i.e., no outstanding fees, abatement issues, etc.),
  • be involved in the community or make attempts to better the community as a whole,
  • not have been selected by the committee for an award in five years, and
  • not be a non-profit organization.

Award Category Descriptions
View 2017 Saint Paul Business Awards honorees.

  • Traditions Award - A Saint Paul business that has been active for at least 20 years who has made significant strides in growing its business while helping to build the community.
  • New Kid on the Block Award - A Saint Paul business that has opened within the last 5 years which shows determination and effort to launch a new business.
  • Large Business Excellence Award - A Saint Paul business with at least 50 employees that cares for its employees and community.
  • Small Business Excellence Award - A Saint Paul business with fewer than 50 employees that cares for its employees and community.
  • Alice O’Brien Award - A Saint Paul business that is at least 51% women-owned with a successful track record and a commitment to strengthen woman-owned businesses within the community.
  • Reflecting St. Paul Award - A Saint Paul business that is at least 51% minority-owned with a successful track record and a commitment to strengthen minority-owned businesses within the community.

(Preference will be given to businesses who hire young people as interns, either through the city’s Right Track program or in another way.)

Information provided will be used by the Selection Committee when determining awards.
