Life Guard

  • June–August
  • Maintains order in and around a beach or pool
  • Supervises swimmers
  • Administers First Aid and CPR
  • Assists with aquatic lessons
  • Must be certified

Pool Supervisor

  • May–September
  • Supervises the operation of a public pool or beach
  • Supervises staff

Senior Pool Attendant

  • June–August
  • Performs lifeguard duties
  • Assists in supervising the operation of a public pool

Swimming Pool Supervisor

  • May–September
  • Performs and supervises the work involved in operating a public swimming pool

Recreation Leader

  • Year-round, part-time
  • Organizes, leads, and monitors recreational activities at a recreation center for all age and ability groups
  • Assists in scheduling and supervising the use of building space and fields
  • Maintains an orderly, friendly, and safe environment
  • May also be assigned to work with S'more Fun


  • April–October
  • Performs food service and/or sales work
  • Prepares, sells, and serves short order meals, refreshments, and beverages
  • Sells tickets and merchandise
  • Rents golf, ski, or aquatics equipment

Right Track

Right Track is designed for youth 14-21 who are interested in career exploration and summer employment. The jobs created through Right Track provide needed community services during the summer months with worksites scattered throughout the City. Qualified candidates for this program will have the opportunity to work in a variety of industries.

Ski Instructor

  • November–March
  • Teaches basic skiing concepts

Golf Ranger

  • April–October
  • Assists golfers
  • Enforces rules and regulations at one of our four municipal golf courses

Park Worker 1

  • April–October
  • Temporary
  • Assisting in the maintenance of park grounds and buildings
  • Performs routine labor in a park or other public grounds
  • Performs related tasks as assigned

Parks and Recreation Worker

  • Temporary
  • Assists with leading and monitoring recreation activities during the summer at recreation centers, day camps, and S'more Fun
  • Teaches specialized activities such as painting, gymnastics, or ceramics to youth or adults

Parks and Recreation Assistant

  • Assists with maintenance, stocking, and clerking
  • Monitors activities at recreation facilities and parks, including golf courses (March–November), pools (June–September), Midway Stadium (April–September), ski centers (winter), and recreation centers (year-round)

Sport Official

  • Year-round, part-time
  • Officiates various youth and/or adult sports throughout Saint Paul, including a choice of football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, broomball, hockey, softball, and baseball

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

  • June–August
  • Teaches swimming lessons and water safety at the City's pools.
