Como Transportation Improvements - McMurray Project

The City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation has secured funding to provide transportation improvements at Como Regional Park. This project will provide improvements to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular circulation, as well as, additional parking.

The master plan that was developed during the Como Regional Park Pool Replacement project will be the starting point of this project. Current traffic data and user feedback will supplement an analysis and review of the previous plan as a means to identify where improvements in that plan can be made.

Wynne Avenue will close on September 21st.

Jessamine Avenue will reopen to traffic on September 21st to provide access to McMurray Field.  Vechicular access to Jessamine will be from the west off Hamline Avenue and be directed by detour signs.  Jessamine will operate as a two way road with a turn around at the eastern end by the warming house.  Parking will be available on the north side of the road.  Parking will also be available on Beulah as it has been for the past 4 weeks.  A graphic illustrating the detour, circulation/parking arrangements, and field access can be viewed here.

September 9, 2016

Jessamine will remain closed until about Wednesday September14th.  During this closure, the eastern section of Wynne will remain open to provide access to the soccer fields.  A walkway is provided between the pool parking lot and the fields.  When work on Jessamine is complete, Jessamine will reopen and Wynne will be close for the duration of the project.

June 27, 2016

Construction documents have been advertised for bids on July 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.  The bids will be reviewed and a contract awarded shortly thereafter.  We anticipate construction will begin in early August with a November completion.  The final overall plan can be reviewed here

April 25, 2016

Preparation of Construction Documents is underway.  We anticipate submitting the documents to the City of Saint Paul Department of Contracts and Analysis for advertisement in the next two weeks for a mid-June bid.

  • Negotiations with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad are still underway to develop parking in the railroad Right of Way.
  • Raised crosswalks are will be developed across Wynne at the existing pool parking lot and at the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom parking lot.
  • Jessamine Avenue will be a 16' wide road with standard concrete curb and gutter.  This width of road is required by the fire department for fire truck access.
  • A new trail segment is being added between Beulah and the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom parking lot.  There is a heavily worn path in this location and a durable pedestrian route will help accommodate this traffic pattern.
