City of Saint Paul and State of Minnesota funding cover the cost of new ballistic vests for each officer every five years, consistent with National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards related to Kevlar performance.

SPPD Note

The Saint Paul Police Department has benefited from resources provided by the Saint Paul Police Foundation, gifts from the community and officers’ personal expenditures to close equipment gaps. If better resourced, the department would provide more protective equipment to allow officers to create time and space in unstable situations.
