Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

CPTED is a crime prevention concept which believes the physical environment can be changed to produce behavioral effects. This will reduce the fear of crime, opportunity for crime to occur, and improve the quality of life. This reduction is achieved by employing physical design features that discourage crime. This concept relies heavily on the use of access control, natural surveillance, and territorial reinforcement to make the program a viable crime deterrent. The use of good lighting and situational landscaping also adds to the effectiveness of the CPTED plan. For further information, contact Officer Jeff Jacobson or Officer Steve Parsons at 651-266-5625.
