Description
Snelling Avenue and Lexington Parkway are critical routes through the City of Saint Paul, used by thousands of travelers each day. Additionally, the completion of Allianz Field and the need to accommodate major events in the area have added complexity to already congested corridors.
Opportunities to meet the needs of increased travel demand through traditional means of increased capacity are limited due to the amount of available space. This project aims to improve the efficiency of these arterials by implementing advanced traffic signal operation technologies and providing travelers with information impacting their route.

This project will also add traffic signals on Lexington Parkway to the City’s advanced traffic management system (ATMS). The City of Saint Paul’s ATMS allows the City to remotely monitor and modify the operation of these signals, providing more rapid response to outages, eliminate time related operational issues and improving the ability to adjust settings.

This project aims to relieve congestion and improve traffic signal operations, incident and emergency management, and event management along these two key arterials in the City of Saint Paul through the installation of new signal controllers, robust detection, interconnect, changeable message signs, implementation of adaptive traffic signal control, travel time monitoring, and signal timing optimization.
