Cleaning and Televising

Project Description

The sanitary sewer cleaning and televising program started in 2004 with a goal to clean and inspect approximately 80 miles of sanitary sewers including manholes every year. The first cycle was completed in 2013. This program helps us to evaluate pipes so that any necessary maintenance, repair or replacement can be scheduled to minimize unexpected problems and emergency repairs. The second cycle was started in 2014 with a goal to clean and inspect 53 miles of sanitary sewers and 28 miles of storm sewers including all the associated manholes annually.

Sewers are cleaned using high velocity jet equipment, which is placed directly into the sewer through an upstream manhole. The extreme pressure of the water removes the dirt, sand, rocks and minor roots and pushes the debris to the downstream manhole.

TV Inspection is done with a camera that  is placed directly into the sewer through a manhole. The camera can examine and televise the entire length of sewer between manholes.
