On Saturday, I attended the Duran Duran with opening act Chic, and was quite surprised by how much fun I had.

Chic, which has been around since the late 1970s, played many disco-era songs. They closed out with "Le Freak", which was probably their best-known single. Nile Rodgers, the lead singer for Chic, shared his emotional story of overcoming cancer and using music as a part of his treatment.  All in all, these performers and their music reminded me of a roller rink that was in my North End neighborhood, when I was young, called the RC Rink. All of the songs played by Chic were ones I skated to as a youngster, and they most definitely took me back!

As for the main act, Duran Duran was a very visual band.  They played some of their all-time favorites, including "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Girls On Film", "Ordinary World", "Notorious" and the James Bond movie anthem, "A View to a Kill".

They have a new album called Paper Gods, which the same-titled song of which I really enjoyed.  As they were in Minnesota, they also gave a nod to Prince, with "Save a Prayer", a very fitting tribute, complete with turning on the purple lights at the X.  The graphics and videos that went along with all of the songs made you want to get up and dance….which we did a lot.

All in all, everyone attending had a great time, sang at the top of our lungs, danced and enjoyed this show in Saint Paul at the X!
