Statement on Gov. Dayton's Budget Proposal
Statement from Mayor Coleman on Governor Dayton’s Budget Proposal
SAINT PAUL - Mayor Chris Coleman released this statement today on Governor Dayton’s Budget Proposal:
"Today's budget from Governor Dayton is as fair and honest as we have seen in 20 years.
By making hard choices, Governor Dayton is planting the seeds needed to make Minnesota great again through economic growth and opportunity for everyone. As a result, we can move beyond the partisan rhetoric and we must work together to solve the state's deficit.
Governor Dayton's commitment to cops, firefighters and librarians through Local Government Aid recognizes the critical role these funds play in keeping residents safe and in educating our children. This investment in Local Government Aid will also help hold the line on property taxes.
Saint Paul and other core cities are the economic engines of Minnesota. With Governor Dayton's bold leadership, Saint Paul will continue to be a prime location for job creation and economic development.
The most important element of today's budget for the future of Minnesota is Governor Dayton's additional investment in education. Saint Paul's work in providing quality out of school learning opportunities has set the City on a course to close the achievement gap. Governor Dayton's support is key in ensuring each child has the tools they need to succeed in school and life."
