Are you interested in the fire service? Firefighters protect the people of Saint Paul through public education, fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services. They partner with the community to mitigate risks, and respond to all calls for service with skill, dedication, and compassion.

But being a Firefighter isn’t just about responding to emergencies. It’s an opportunity to lead and become the type of person others can rely on in a time of need. Being a Firefighter isn’t about being a hero, it’s about teamwork, staying calm under pressure, and serving others.

Firefighters respond to various calls for assistance, including medical emergencies, accident scenes, and fires. They will work in difficult work environments including conditions of high heat, low visibility, in confined and claustrophobic spaces, on elevated ladders or apparatus, under stressful conditions, when fatigued, and in adverse weather conditions, wearing full personal protective equipment. Firefighter/EMTs are exposed to a variety of traumatic situations that may cause physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological distress.
