On Earth Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., the City of Saint Paul will unveil new design renderings of the West Side Flats greenway development at a fun, family-friendly event featuring speakers, music, a local food truck, and a special sunflower planting activity. This is the public’s final opportunity to provide input on the greenway’s preliminary design before it is finalized later this year
Volunteers will be on hand to help attendees pot and plant sunflowers in more than 100 bright yellow buckets that will be lined across the property. Write a unique message and draw an inspiring picture on your bucket, and come back to visit as the plants bloom throughout the summer. The event, jointly hosted by the City of Saint Paul and the West Side Community Organization, takes place just across the Mississippi River from downtown in Saint Paul’s West Side neighborhood.
West Side Flats is a 40-acre brownfield site that will be developed into a thriving, mixed-use, riverfront urban village that better connects the community to the Mississippi River. A scenic greenway is being planned for the site to serve both as a vibrant public open space and stormwater infrastructure.
