Crosby Park West Entrance
The City has secured funds to improve the parking lot and trails at the west entrance of Crosby Farm Park. The goals of the project are to replace the 40-year old paving but with reduced area, pull back the vehicular intrusion from the prairie area of the park, improve site safety, provide treatment of stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces, and match parking capacity to existing and plan for parking management of large events. The City proposes to remove the "S" shape portion of the roadway that extends from the existing parking lot to the circle turn around. An expanded parking lot near the picnic shelter will accommodate approximately 50 cars. Overflow parking for very large events can occur during summer months on the north side of Crosby Farm road to the west of the parking lot as it moves uphill; new signage and pavement markings will be added along the roadway. New trails will replace the road in providing connection to the loop trail around LIttle Crosby Lake. The removed road and parking will be restored as part of the prairie. See the "Option 1" and "Option 2" links below for plan layouts.
Construction of the parking lot should begin in late summer of 2012; the parking lot is now under construction and will be closed September - October 2012. The concepts were presented to the Community Services Committee of the Highland District Council on February 8th. Option 2 was the preferred plan and will be presented to the Highland District Council at a date in the near future.
