Ford Parkway Project update

The water department will be replacing water main during a construction project planned to occur along Ford Parkway from Howell St. to Mississippi River Blvd.

The water main along the north side of Ford Parkway will be replaced using a method called pipe bursting, whereby new pipe is installed without the need for traditional excavation along the entire length. The project will begin between Kenneth St. and Howell St. and progress westerly toward Mississippi River Blvd.

Traffic Impact

Work will begin in mid-April 2017 and be complete by August 2017.

During construction traffic will be diverted around the work via lane shifts and lane reductions. Both eastbound and westbound traffic will be restricted to single lanes south of the median for much of the project. An alternate route around Ford Parkway will be provided for through traffic to relieve congestion.

Access to Businesses:

Some businesses on the north side of Ford may not be accessible to traffic traveling eastward on Ford Pkwy due to driving lane restrictions. Access will be maintained for westbound traffic and from side streets and alleys.

Project Updates

Water main replacement on the north side of Ford Parkway between Howell Street and Cleveland Avenue continues. Work in this section should be finished within two weeks, weather permitting.

Additional water main replacement work along Ford Parkway between Cleveland Avenue and Finn Street will begin on Monday, May 8. The work will take up to five weeks. During this time:

  • Access to all businesses will be maintained
  • Ford Parkway will be limited to one lane in each direction
  • No parking will be available on the north side of Ford Parkway
  • Sidewalks on the north side of Ford Parkway will be open
  • Alternative driving routes will be in place along Cretin and Fairview avenues

The A-line bus station at Kenneth Street and Ford Parkway will reopen on Tuesday, May 9. Metro Transit offers Rider Alerts for changes in schedules and stops.
