Problem Public Telephone

If a public telephone is being used for illegal purposes, such as prostitution or drug dealing, it is a "problem telephone." Upon notification of the existence of a problem phone, the Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) will hold informal hearings to gather evidence and take testimony as to the validity of the claim. Upon confirming a particular telephone is a problem telephone, DSI may issue an order to the licensee and/or owner to restrict usage and/or have the phone temporarily or permanently removed.
