Map image of water main replacement work on Thompson

The original cast iron water main within the project area was installed in 1958. It has suffered repeated breaks over the years and has exceeded its useful life.

SPRWS crews along with Quam Construction Co. will replace the existing 6” cast iron water main with a combination of 6” and 8” HDPE pipe via a trenchless method called pipe bursting.

Project Updates

Starting on Wednesday May 22nd, Thompson Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic between Waterloo Avenue and Oakdale Avenue. Residents will still be able to access their homes and driveways, but all westbound traffic will be directed to Wentworth Avenue and Robert Street. This temporary road closure is expected to last two weeks.

Project Updates

Work is complete between Waterloo and Oakdale and westbound traffic is open. Westbound traffic will remain closed from Oakdale to Robert as work is underway for that portion of the roadway. Work on this portion of Thompson Avenue is expected to continue into August.

Project Updates

Work on Thompson Ave is in the final stages. Approximately 75 feet of pipe need to be installed near the Robert Street intersection. After the water main is fully installed, SPRWS will continue to work reconnecting services and the disturbed portions of the roadway will be paved.

Project Updates

Water main replacement and street restoration is complete on Thompson Avenue. Traffic pattern will come down on 10/15 and Thompson Avenue will be open to normal traffic.
