(Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020) Saint Paul police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in the city’s Greater East Side neighborhood Tuesday, Sept. 1. Officers were called to the 1200 block of Hazelwood Street just before 6 p.m. on a report of a man shot in a vehicle.

When they arrived, officers found a man in a pick-up truck with a gunshot wound to the head. Saint Paul Fire responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.   

Witnesses who called 911 reported a possible suspect ran from the scene after the shooting. Responding officers from our Eastern District, Special Operations Unit and Gang/Gun Unit set up a perimeter in the area in an effort to contain the fleeing suspect. A possible male suspect was stopped and will be brought to headquarters for an interview with investigators.

As the night progresses, the department’s Forensic Services Unit will process the scene for evidence and our homicide investigators will be trying to ascertain what the circumstances are that led to this shooting and who is responsible.

The Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine an exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.

This is the 22nd homicide of the year in Saint Paul.
