Saint Paul police looking for shooter who killed woman Wednesday morning

A woman is dead and Saint Paul police are looking for the person who killed her after an early morning shooting Wednesday, July 1.

At about 1:15 a.m., people started calling 911 to ask for help during a disturbance at a bar on the 1500 block of University Avenue West, near the intersection of Asbury Street North. A few minutes later, officers learned that a woman with an apparent gunshot wound had been brought to Regions Hospital in a private vehicle.

She was pronounced dead and officers learned that her injuries occurred during the disturbance on University Avenue.

Now the department has launched a homicide investigation to find the shooter.

Patrol officers have established a perimeter near the bar. Investigators with the Forensic Services Unit are working to collect evidence. And homicide investigators are tracking down possible witnesses and leads.

No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is asked to call 651-266-5650.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine her exact cause of death. That information, along with any updates in the cases, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.

This is the 17th homicide in Saint Paul this year.
