Polygraph Use:
The use of the polygraph is to detect when the subject of a criminal investigation is or is not being truthful.
The polygraph is not designed to replace a thorough, competent criminal investigation. It should not be your first resort in trying to solve a crime, but a last resort.
Procedure:
Saint Paul Police Department contracts with a private vendor for polygraph examinations. Investigators requesting an examination should first consult with their unit head. Upon approving the request, the unit head will provide the investigator with the current contract examiners name and phone number. The investigator will gather and contact the examiner, provide necessary information and arrange for administration of the exam.
