The responding officers to an alarm at a Saint Paul public school will secure the perimeter and determine whether a building search is necessary (i.e., point of entry, continued indication from the alarm company, or hazardous condition). If a search is necessary, a designated K-9 will be dispatched to conduct the search.

Once the perimeter is secured and the building searched, the school’s custodian, or key holder, will be contacted if necessary by the alarm company. If a custodian is needed before the building can be secured, the original squad will stand by until the custodian arrives. If there is no apparent theft or damage to the building, squads will secure the building and return to service.  A report is not necessary for a false alarm call to a public school. Officers may elect whatever disposition is justified by the facts of the call.

In any of the above situations the Ramsey County emergency communications center should be requested to notify the security company of the findings of the officers dispatched.
