EXAMINATIONS

The Saint Paul Fire Training Division facilitates multiple examination events including the firefighter entrance exam physical testing, Joint Apprenticeship Training Program and promotional testing.

FIRE SUPPRESSION TRAINING

The Saint Paul Fire Training Division is responsible for organizing, designing, implementing, and managing firefighter training for all department members in the disciplines of: Engine Company operations, Rescue Company operations, and Ladder Company operations. The Training Division also focuses on High-Rise operations, Firefighter Safety and Survival, Rapid Intervention Teams, Thermal Imaging Camera training, vehicle fires, and other fire hazards.

The Training Division also provides training on Incident Management and Fireground Command, to include hosting FEMA Incident Command System training, National Fire Academy courses, and Blue Card Fire Ground Command certification classes.

LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

The Saint Paul Fire Department Training Division manages departmental equipment logistics for the areas of Fire Suppression and Emergency Medical Services equipment, to include personal protective equipment, power tools, hand tools and other items used by Firefighters for specialized response and training activities.

Recruit Academy

Recruit Training Academy

While at the Saint Paul Fire Department Recruit Training Academy, Firefighter recruits go through an intense 16-week training program designed to provide the essential skills needed to be successful in the firefighting and emergency medical career fields.

Physical training is conducted every day, and recruits must gain and maintain the strength and fitness necessary to meet the demands of firefighting.

The Recruits must successfully complete academic and practical exams based on NFPA 1001 Standards for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. Upon completion of the Academy, recruits are trained and certified to Minnesota State Firefighter I & II levels.
