May Park Renovation
May Park Project Overview
May Park is a 0.81 acre park surrounded by residential homes in the Hamline-Midway Neighborhood. The park currently has two large oak trees, a swing set, merry-go-round, and flexible open space. Funding from the Capital Improvement Bonds (CIB) has been secured to remove existing play equipment and create a “playful” space within May Park.
September 14, 2017: The May Park Renovation project is completed. Look forward to the public art at May Park!
August 15, 2017: Site furnishings are installed and the project is near complete. There are only a few items left for the contractor to do and for the artist to complete the public art. Here are some images of the site furnishings.
August 7, 2017: The new play area is now OPEN! It first opened on August 2nd in time for the National Night Out event. The community had a great time and the children are having lots of fun. Here are some images from the event. The landscape is completed and site furnishings will be installed soon. The public art is still underway.
July 25, 2017: The new play equipment are installed and the looped concrete walk is completed. Landscape work and installation of site furnishings are in progress. Also, the public artist has started to put the artful bench together on site. Look forward to the completed art for May Park! Images are here for review.
July 20, 2017: The swing beam and monkey bars are installed. Excavation is to be completed and the pouring of the concrete walk will begin. Images here.

June 19, 2017: Construction at May Park has started. Here are a few photos. A friendly reminder the play area is closed during construction.
May 2, 2017: Construction is to begin June 2017 with the anticipation to end late July 2017. As a reminder, the play area will be closed during construction.
March 14, 2017: The bidding process closed Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 2 pm and a contractor has been selected. Construction will begin as soon as the weather permits it. Please note, the play area will be closed during construction. Construction is anticipated to end late July 2017. Also, the public artist, Ann, is currently developing sketches of an artful seating for May Park.
January 31, 2017: May Park Renovation construction documents are complete and out for bid.

Based on the results from the community engagement meetings, the final design of the play area has been chosen.
Meeting 1: Friday June 24, 2016 from 4-6 pm at May Park
Meeting 2: Thursday July 28, 2016 From 5pm-7pm, at Hancock Recreation Center, 1610 Hubbard Ave in the Lounge Room
Meeting 3: Public Open-House – Thursday August 25, 2016, Onsite at May park from 5:30-7:00pm. **Please note, in case of bad weather the meeting will be held at Newell Park picnic shelter.
