SAINT PAUL, Minn.– Today, the City of Saint Paul announced the beginning of the Hillcrest Redevelopment Master Plan process with the opening of applications for a Community Advisory Committee. The committee will help guide the work of city staff and consultants in the development of the Hillcrest Master Plan.

The plan will determine future land uses and a new street network for the 112-acre former golf course site on Saint Paul’s East Side. This comes following the Saint Paul City Council’s July approval of bonds for the Saint Paul Port Authority to purchase the site.

“Redeveloping Hillcrest presents an incredible opportunity for Saint Paul,” said Mayor Melvin Carter. “I encourage residents to join the conversation and help ensure we develop a vision for the site that works for all of us.”

“The Hillcrest redevelopment will be an enormous asset for the East Side,” said City Council President Amy Brendmoen. “Making sure the voices of our community help shape how we define land use, site design, housing and green space is vital.”

“The potential for housing, jobs and green space on the Hillcrest site are important for our city now and for our future,” said Councilmember, and Housing and Redevelopment Authority Chair Chris Tolbert. “Our master planning process will help us leverage this potential to meet the many needs of our community.”

"We look forward to collaborating with the City as they lead the charge in developing a comprehensive master plan that meets the needs of the city, its residents, and the business community," said Saint Paul Port Authority president Lee Krueger.

Applications to join the Hillcrest Master Plan Community Advisory Committee are available now through September 6 at stpaul.gov/hillcrest. Committee members will be appointed by the mayor and announced in late September. The committee will convene starting in October.

Request for proposals for consultants that will support the master planning process will also be released in the coming weeks.
