Just before 1 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported shots fired near Lafond Avenue and Grotto Street North. The 911 callers then said that someone was shot, and many people were driving away from the chaotic scene. When officers arrived, they did not locate a victim in the area. Another 911 call came in stating that the victim was being transported to Regions Hospital in a private vehicle. An adult male victim was dropped off at Regions a short time later and was pronounced dead not long after arriving.
Saint Paul officers secured the shooting scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. Investigators with the police department's homicide unit are currently working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. In addition, members of the forensic services unit are processing the scene and looking for any evidence that could help determine what happened.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter/X account, @sppdmn.
This is the seventh homicide of 2024 in Saint Paul.
