A homicide investigation is underway after a man died in an alley Sunday, July 26.

A lone 911 caller at about 11:15 p.m. reported that two people were fighting behind a home on the 600 block of Edmund Avenue West, just south of the intersection of Edmund and St. Albans Street North.

When officers arrived, they found a gravely injured man lying in the alleyway. The officers rendered aid and called for St. Paul Fire medics, but their combined life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. The victim died where officers found him.

In addition to the victim, two witnesses and a teenage male suspect were found at the scene. The witnesses were interviewed and released; the suspect was taken to Saint Paul Police Headquarters. Homicide investigators continue to interview him in an effort to understand what led to the fight and the victim’s death.

Even though a suspect has been identified, investigators still want the public’s help. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 651-266-5650.

The department’s Forensic Services Unit has processed the scene and will begin analyzing any evidence it collected. The Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine an exact cause of death.

This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.

This is the 19th homicide of the year in Saint Paul.
