Eureka Recycling announces a Winter Weather Collection Delay due to extreme cold temperatures

SAINT PAUL (January 29, 2019) – Due to extreme cold temperatures expected for Wednesday, January 30, 2019, the City of Saint Paul Department of Public Works has announced that the city’s recycling hauler, Eureka Recycling, has issued a Winter Weather Collection Delay for the remainder of the week. At this time, garbage collection is NOT affected or delayed, but please allow extra time for garbage haulers to safely complete their scheduled routes.

The Collection Delay effects all recycling customers with Wednesday through Friday collection days this week. Recycling customers will need to put their recycling cart out one day later than their regular collection day for the remainder of this week. For example, if the resident’s regular collection is on Wednesday, then their recycling collection will occur on Thursday this week.

“When the temperatures are this extreme we have to prioritize the safety of our workers,” said David Weidenfeller, Director of Collections at Eureka Recycling. “If a truck was to break down or a driver was to slip and fall it would only be a matter of minutes before they could have serious frostbite. We decided that the safest course was to close on Wednesday and delay recycling routes by one day for the rest of this week.”
