Investigators with the Saint Paul Police Department’s Homicide Unit are working to determine what led to the city’s first homicide of 2018.

Officers were called to a convenience store on the 600 block of Payne Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 on a report of a shooting.  

Upon arrival, officers found a female inside the store suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Saint Paul Fire medics were called to the scene and pronounced her dead.

investigators are interviewing people who were in the store at the time of the shooting, and the department’s Forensic Services Unit is currently processing the scene for evidence.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will work to positively identify the deceased and determine an exact cause of death. Once that information becomes available, it will be released on the police department’s Twitter account, sppdmn.
