A 911 caller reporting that a woman had been shot led police to a home on the 1100 block of Bush Avenue on Saint Paul’s East Side Wednesday night. Now investigators are looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

The call for help came in at about 8:45 p.m., and officers rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they found the victim lying in the backyard. She was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing.

Officers attempted to render aid while ensuring the scene was safe. Saint Paul Fire medics soon arrived and pronounced the victim dead without transporting her to a hospital.

Other patrol officers who had also responded cordoned off the scene to protect possible evidence and identified possible witnesses. Investigators with the Homicide Unit were called and will be canvassing the area and interviewing potential witnesses. They’ll also be examining evidence collected by the Forensic Services and Video Management Unit, which will be processing the scene well into the morning.

No arrests have been made, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.

Once the scene has been processed, the Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine an exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.

This is the 21st homicide of the year in Saint Paul.
