When incidents occur on school buses in the City of Saint Paul, whether at a school or on a route, the following policy shall apply:

School bus drivers may call for police service if there are activities on or about the bus which place the driver, students or other persons at risk; if a crime has been committed; or as dictated by law.

Upon receipt of a call from a school bus driver or school district employee, a squad will be sent to the scene. Upon arrival the squad shall assess the situation and check if an off-duty officer working for the schools is available. If an off-duty officer is working, the officer may turn the call over to them and assist as needed. In any event, if a criminal offense has been committed, officers must take appropriate action. If no offense has taken place, the officer will advise the bus driver. The officer must provide information to the school regarding the incident as required or authorized by law.
