Tactical Alert:  A Tactical Alert is a response to events that require a number of well-organized officers responding in a coordinated fashion.  Tactical Alerts are different from a Signal 13.  The term Tactical Alert is an action signal asking officers to respond to a problem in a coordinated fashion; as opposed to the independent patrol efforts performed each day.

There are two levels of Tactical Alert; Tac Alert I and Tac Alert II.  Tactical Alerts I and II may be called by a Sergeant or above.  Time permitting notification to a commander or above should be made before the Tactical Alert or as soon as feasible after the Tactical Alert is called.

Incident Commander:  For the purposes of a Tactical Alert I and II the Incident Commander may be the senior officer on duty at the incident.

For the purposes of this policy it is not necessary to progress through a TAC Alert I before calling a TAC Alert II.

Tactical Alert Levels

  • Tactical Alert I:

    • All on-duty, odd-numbered squads willrespond to a designated assembly point identified by the incident commander (IC).

    • The incident commander is now in charge of this incident until or unless relieved. As soon as feasible a staging supervisor will be identified by the incident commander, assigned to track personnel and equipment. The incident commander will direct the assembled resources to resolve the problem.

  • Tactical Alert II:

    • During this alert two squads will remain in each district.  The Sergeant in charge of the district where responding squads are being requested will be responsible for identifying the two squads that will remain in their district. All other squads will respond to the designated assembly point identified by the incident commander.

    • The incident commander is now in charge of this incident until or unless relieved.  As with a Tactical Alert I a staging supervisor will be identified by the incident commander, assigned to manage and track resources. The incident commander will direct the assembled resources to resolve the problem.
