Join Deputy Mayor Kristin Beckman, Councilmember Dai Thao, Ward 1, Bao Vang, President and CEO of the Hmong American Partnership, and Va-Megn Thoj, the Executive Director of the Asian Economic Development Association for the demolition of a vacant building at 402 University Avenue West. This area will be leveled to make room for Little Mekong Plaza, a new privately owned public space.
This event will take place on Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m.
Background information on Little Mekong Plaza:
Little Mekong Plaza will be one of the first privately owned public spaces along the Green Line. The new landmark and gathering space will reflect the Hmong, Vietnamese and other ethnic and immigrant communities that live and operate businesses in the area. The building set for demolition was built in 1948 and has been vacant since 2006.
The Hmong American Partnership will own Little Mekong Plaza and will coordinate programming and maintenance in cooperation with the Asian Economic Development Association and other community partners.
The development of this plaza was made possible with an investment from the City's 8 80 Vitality Fund, created in 2014, to help move projects forward that promote a livable city for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
