Swimming lessons are free for every child in Saint Paul!

Since 2024, every child and teenager under 18 who lives in Saint Paul can take swimming lessons free of charge. Today, Parks & Recreation instructors teach over 3,000 swimming lessons every year, and we save space in them for the children in our community who are most likely to need water safety skills. Here’s why:

  • In the United States, drowning is the leading cause of death for children from one to four years old.
  • Children from historically marginalized communities are disproportionately likely to drown.
  • Everyone in Saint Paul deserves to be safe and have fun in the water — starting with all our kids.
