March 28, 2023 (MINNEAPOLIS) The cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are lifting Winter Parking Restrictions effective 8 a.m. tomorrow, March 29.
The City of Minneapolis implemented Winter Parking Restrictions Jan. 25 after significant snow accumulation narrowed city streets making access difficult for emergency vehicles. Limiting parking to one side of most neighborhood streets created more reliable vehicle access for emergency responses.
The City of Saint Paul enacted a 1-side parking ban on residential streets on March 10 due to the record snowfall totals and the narrowing of residential side streets. Many streets were impassable for emergency vehicles and the city prohibited parking on the even-side of the street.
Milder weather has allowed the snow pack to melt, returning streets to more normal conditions. Beginning 8 a.m. tomorrow, normal parking rules will apply on all city streets in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. As always, drivers should continue to follow all rules on any posted parking signs.
“Winter Parking Restrictions have been a critical tool for us this winter season to ensure that emergency vehicles have the ability to navigate streets narrowed by the heavy snow pack,” said Minneapolis Public Works Director Margaret Anderson Kelliher. “We thank everyone for their patience and compliance with these rules.”
“We realize that putting in place additional parking restrictions was a challenge for many residents who need on-street parking,” said Sean Kershaw, Director of Public Works for Saint Paul. “Our plow and emergency vehicle drivers appreciated residents’ compliance so they could continue to safely access and clear our streets this winter.”
Although the Winter Parking Restrictions are being lifted, it is still possible for either or both cities to declare additional Snow Emergencies.
