Saint Paul City Council Accepting Applications to Serve on Early Learning Legislative Advisory Committee

SAINT PAUL (MN) – Today, the Saint Paul City Council announces the launch of its application process for the Early Learning Legislative Advisory Committee (the Committee). On July 27th, the City Council passed Resolution 22-1183, creating an Early Learning Legislative Advisory Committee. The limited-term legislative advisory committee will work with the Saint Paul City Council and the City to (1) evaluate a locally governed program to ensure universal and equitable access to early care and education for all Saint Paul children, and (2) explore public funding and any other relevant funding options.

The Committee is empowered to make recommendations to the City Council on the potential design and implementation of a potential early childhood program and, if appropriate, to propose establishing legislation. The Committee will review and adopt a proposed work plan and schedule at its first meeting and is expected to meet biweekly, in person, on Thursday evenings thereafter (schedule subject to change). The Early Learning Legislative Advisory Committee will present its recommendations and any related draft legislation to the Council no later than March 26, 2023. The Committee’s term will expire upon this presentation to the Council.

The Council is now accepting online applications through the end of the day Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Resolution 22-1183 commits the Council to establishment of the Committee by September 28, 2022.
