A man is dead and Saint Paul police officers are searching for the people or person who assaulted him.

On Friday, at about 9 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Seventh Street East and White Bear Avenue for a man lying in the street. When officers arrived, they located a man, in his 20s, suffering from an apparent stab wound. They secured the scene and called for St. Paul Fire medics. Medics arrived and transported the man to Regions for his injuries; he unfortunately died at the hospital.

A team of homicide investigators have begun the process of interviewing people, looking for possible witnesses to try to piece together what happened in the moments before, during and after the man’s death

As of Saturday morning, no motive has been determined, and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 651-266-5650.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the man’s exact cause of death and positively identify him. That information, along with any updates in the case, will be released on the police department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn.

This is the 23nd homicide of the year in the city.
