A woman was struck by a car and killed Thursday, Dec. 5 near the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue East and North Manton Street in Saint Paul’s Greater East Side neighborhood.

Drivers called 911 at about 5:15 p.m. to report the crash. When Saint Paul police officers and medics with the Fire Department arrived they found a gravely injured woman lying in the eastbound lane of Larpenteur Avenue.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 35-year-old man from Maplewood who was driving the 2009 Kia that struck the woman was also there, and he is fully cooperating with the investigation.

According to investigators who spoke to witnesses, preliminary information indicates the woman appeared to have been trying to cross Larpenteur Avenue when she may have fallen to the ground and was hit by the eastbound-traveling car.

At this time, investigators do not believe the driver was impaired, and he voluntarily provided blood samples to assist the investigation.

More information about the incident, including the name of the deceased, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department’s Twitter page, @sppdmn, tomorrow.

As of Thursday night, no arrests have been made. This case remains under investigation.
