Description
The City of Saint Paul will be working with a contractor to make necessary sewer repairs throughout the City. These projects are funded by the sewer utility. There are no assessments to property owners.

Streets may be closed and no parking signs posted during sewer work.

  • 6th Street and Robert Street in downtown Saint Paul - Scheduled to start April 1, anticipated to take 2 months
  • Mackubin Street and Van Buren Avenue - Scheduled to start April 8, anticipated to be completed by mid-May
  • Ohio Street between Alice/Winifred and Cherokee Avenue
  • In front of 4 Acker Street (near the intersection of Acker Street and Lightner Place)
  • Rice Street between Sherburne Avenue and Charles Avenue

    Sewer work at northeast corner of Mackubin Street and Van Buren Avenue - scheduled to start April 8

    A contractor (PCi Roads) is working for Public Works Sewer Utility to complete storm sewer tunnel repair work on the northeast corner of Mackubin Street and Van Buren Avenue. This worksite and the access to the storm sewer tunnel are located within a city easement in front of 493 Van Buren Street.

    The work is scheduled to start April 8 and is anticipated to be completed by mid-May, weather permitting.

    Potential Pedestrian & Traffic Impacts:

    • Security chain link fencing will be setup to secure the work area.
    • Sidewalk adjacent to the work area will be closed.
    • No parking signs may be posted near the construction site. Please follow all posted signs.
    • Access to driveways will be maintained.

    Sewer work at 6th Street and Robert Street in downtown Saint Paul - scheduled to start April 1

    The Saint Paul Sewer Utility will be updating the sanitary sewer at the intersection of Robert Street and 6th Street. Sewer work is scheduled to start April 1, 2024 and take approximately two months. Lumen National and Xcel Gas will also be working in this area at the same time. Traffic patterns and the work area will change multiple times during construction.

    Robert Street will be closed to all traffic north of the 6th Street intersection and 6th Street will be reduced to one lane starting April 1. Access to properties on Robert Street between 6th Street and 7th Street will be from 7th Street.

    Detours for Robert Street closure north of 6th Street
    • Northbound Robert Street: West (left) on 6th Street to north (right) on Wabasha Street to east (right) on 7th Street to Robert Street
    • Southbound Robert Street: East (left) on 7th Street to south (right) on Jackson Street to west (right) on 6th Street to south (left) on Robert Street
    • To access properties on Robert Street between 6th Street and 7th Street: Access Robert Street heading south from 7th Street. Follow appropriate detours as needed.
    • Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian access to properties on Robert Street will be maintained. The easiest access will be to walk south from 7th Place. Pedestrians will not be able to cross Robert Street on the north side of the intersection with 6th Street nor will they be able to cross 6th Street at Robert Street. 
    • Bus Stops: Metro Transit is detouring buses traveling on 6th Street in downtown St. Paul to 7th Street. For more information see Metro Transit's webpage.
    • Note that Minnesota Street is reduced to one lane north of 6th Street for utility work.
