SPPD believes in continuing and higher education

All personnel are encouraged to achieve a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university. To support academic study, the department will accommodate modification of employee shift assignments when possible and practical.

5.11 Encourage and incentivize continuing and higher education for law enforcement officers.

SPPD Note

Officers are called upon to serve as social first responders in increasingly complex situations. To better equip officers to meet complex challenges throughout their careers, the Saint Paul Police Department recommends legislative resources to facilitate and incentivize continuing and higher education for officers, including graduate and professional certification programs.
