Saint Paul residents cherish our winter traditions: the Winter Carnival, Rice Park lights, and skating on frozen lakes. Less cherished winter rituals are snow shoveling and Snow Emergencies. Saint Paul Public Works has dedicated employees and specific equipment to remove snow from roadways, but our most challenging adversaries to safe and passable streets are parked cars.
Saint Paul has a variety of methods to notify residents and visitors of the need to move cars from streets during Snow Emergencies, but we know that our most valuable allies to get the “Move It!” message out are Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Snow Emergency SuperStars are neighbors who will help others on their block know when and where to move their cars during a Snow Emergency. The SuperStars will receive notice when a Snow Emergency is declared and will have “No Parking Snow Emergency” signs to place before Night or Day Plow routes begin. SuperStars will also have Snow Emergency brochures to provide to neighbors.
Snow Emergency SuperStars have a unique opportunity to help their neighbors avoid a ticket or tow during Snow Emergencies and will also help Public Works safely and fully plow streets curb to curb. Snow Emergency SuperStars will become a new Saint Paul winter tradition.
